Slot Glossary
33 terms every slot player should know — explained with Book of Dead Go Collect examples where relevant. No marketing jargon.
Autoplay
A setting that spins the reels automatically for a set number of rounds. You pick how many spins and optional stop conditions (like stopping on a bonus trigger or when your balance drops below a threshold). Useful for grinding through base game spins without clicking every time.
Base Game
Regular gameplay before any bonus features trigger. Most of your spins happen here. In high-volatility slots like Book of Dead Go Collect, the base game usually pays small or nothing — the heavier hits arrive through Free Spins and Treasure Vault triggers.
Bonus Buy (Feature Buy)
Lets you skip the base game and jump directly into a bonus round for a fixed cost — usually 50x to 1,000x your bet. Book of Dead Go Collect offers a 100x Buy Bonus that drops you straight into Hold & Win Respins. Not available in all jurisdictions; the UK bans it entirely.
Cascading Reels (Tumble)
After a win, winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into place. This can chain multiple wins from a single spin. Book of Dead Go Collect doesn't use this mechanic — it sticks to standard spinning reels with the GO Collect overlay running in parallel.
Cluster Pays
A win mechanic where matching symbols need to form a connected group (cluster) rather than lining up on a payline. Typically requires 5+ matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically.
Dead Spin
A spin that returns absolutely nothing — zero payout. In high-volatility slots like Book of Dead Go Collect, dead spins are common between feature triggers. That's not a bug; it's how the math model concentrates payouts into rare but large hits. Budget accordingly and don't chase losses after a dry streak.
Feature Trigger Rate
How often a bonus feature activates, usually expressed as '1 in X spins.' In Book of Dead Go Collect, Free Spins trigger roughly 1 in 180 base spins, the GO Collect meter fills around 1 in 200 spins, and the Gold-tier Treasure Vault sits at about 1 in 2,000 spins. You can find these stats in the game's info panel from Play'n GO.
Gamble Feature
An optional mini-game after any win where you risk your payout for a chance to double it. Usually a coin flip or card guess. Book of Dead Go Collect doesn't include a gamble option — wins lock in automatically and feed straight into the GO Collect progression.
Hit Frequency
How often a slot lands any winning combination. A 25% hit frequency means roughly 1 in 4 spins pays something. Book of Dead Go Collect sits at roughly that ballpark — high-volatility slots tend to have lower hit frequencies but larger individual wins.
Max Win
The absolute maximum a slot can pay on a single spin, expressed as a multiplier of your bet. Book of Dead Go Collect caps at 10,000x. Once hit, the round ends immediately regardless of remaining features. Most players never reach this — it's a theoretical max win.
Max Win Cap
The absolute ceiling on a single spin's payout. Once reached, the game stops the round immediately — even if you had remaining free spins with multipliers building. Book of Dead Go Collect caps at 10,000x. The round ends, your balance updates, and you're back to base game. This cap protects the casino's liability.
Megaways
A mechanic by Big Time Gaming where the number of symbols per reel changes each spin, creating up to 117,649 ways to win. Book of Dead Go Collect does NOT use Megaways — it has 10 Lines fixed paylines on a 5x3 grid.
Multiplier
A value that multiplies your win. A 10x multiplier on a $5 win = $50 payout. In Book of Dead Go Collect, multipliers come through coin values (1x–100x) that feed the GO Collect meter and the fixed jackpot tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold) inside the Treasure Vault.
Paylines
Predefined lines across the reels where matching symbols must land to form a win. Book of Dead Go Collect runs on 10 Lines fixed paylines across a 5x3 grid. You can't reduce the count — all lines stay active on every spin.
Paytable
The reference chart showing what each symbol pays for different combination lengths (3, 4, or 5 of a kind). Access it through the game's info or settings menu. Premium symbols always pay more than card symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10).
RNG (Random Number Generator)
The algorithm that determines every spin outcome. Certified by independent labs (like eCOGRA, iTech Labs, GLI) to ensure fairness. Each spin is completely independent — previous results have zero influence on future ones. There's no such thing as a slot being 'due' for a win.
RTP (Return to Player)
The theoretical percentage of wagered money a slot returns over millions of spins. Book of Dead Go Collect ships with a default RTP of 96.2%. That doesn't mean you'll get back that exact percentage in your session — it's a long-term statistical average. Some casinos run lower RTP variants (94.2% / 91.2%), so check the rules.
Scatter
A special symbol that triggers features regardless of its position on the grid — it doesn't need to land on a specific payline. In Book of Dead Go Collect, the Book of Dead acts as the scatter — 3+ Books anywhere on the reels trigger Free Spins.
Session Variance
The gap between your actual results and the theoretical RTP. Book of Dead Go Collect has 96.2% RTP, but a 500-spin session can return anywhere from 40% to 180% of your wager. That's normal. Don't judge a slot's fairness from a single session — you need thousands of spins for results to converge toward the published RTP.
Sticky Wild
A Wild symbol that stays in place for multiple spins instead of disappearing after one round. Common in Free Spins modes. Book of Dead Go Collect uses a different sticky concept — coin symbols lock in place during Hold & Win Respins, holding their cash values until the respins finish.
Volatility (Variance)
How a slot's payouts are distributed. High volatility = rare but large wins, long dry spells. Low volatility = frequent small wins, steadier balance. Book of Dead Go Collect is rated High volatility. Expect patience-testing base game stretches punctuated by GO Collect meter fills, expanded Free Spin reels, or Treasure Vault hits.
Ways to Win
An alternative to paylines where matching symbols on adjacent reels (left to right) count as wins regardless of row position. A 5x3 grid with ways-to-win has 243 possible combinations. Book of Dead Go Collect uses 10 Lines fixed paylines, not ways-to-win.
Wild
A symbol that substitutes for any regular symbol to complete winning combinations. It doesn't replace scatters or other special symbols. In Book of Dead Go Collect, the Wild substitutes for premium and card symbols across the 10 Lines grid but never replaces the Book scatter.
Win Distribution
How a slot's total payouts are spread across different win sizes. High-volatility slots like Book of Dead Go Collect are 'top-heavy' — a small percentage of spins account for most of the total payout. The expanded Free Spins reels and Gold Treasure Vault hits do most of the heavy lifting toward the 10,000x max.
GO Collect Mechanic
Play'n GO's signature Hold & Win variant used in Book of Dead Go Collect. Coin symbols carrying cash values (1x–100x bet) land in the base game and feed a progression meter on the side. When the meter fills, the Treasure Vault Jackpot bonus triggers, awarding all collected coins plus a fixed jackpot tier.
Treasure Vault Jackpots
The four-tier jackpot bonus on top of Book of Dead Go Collect's standard structure. Once the GO Collect meter fills, you enter a chest-pick room: Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand prizes sit inside. Selection is random and pays on top of every coin value already on screen.
Expanding Symbol
Carried over from the original Book of Dead. Before Free Spins start, one premium symbol is randomly chosen as the Expanding Symbol. When it lands during the round, it stretches to fill the entire reel and pays across all 10 Lines, ignoring normal adjacency rules.
Hold & Win Respins
An alternate path inside Book of Dead Go Collect that runs separately from the GO Collect meter. Trigger it randomly or via the 100x Buy Bonus. All coin symbols lock in place with their values, you get 3 respins, and the counter resets every time a new coin lands. Filling the grid auto-awards the Grand Vault.
Book Scatter
The Book of Dead icon — Book of Dead Go Collect's scatter and highest-paying symbol. Three or more anywhere on the 5x3 grid trigger 10 Free Spins. The Book also acts as a Wild during Free Spins, expanding alongside the chosen premium symbol.
Money Symbols
Coin tokens stamped with a cash value between 1x and 100x bet. They land randomly in the base game alongside the standard premiums and lows, feed the GO Collect meter, and stay on the grid as the central currency of the Treasure Vault payout.
Collector Symbol
When a Collector lands during base spins or Hold & Win Respins, every visible Money Symbol on the grid gets pulled into one combined payout. That's the headline 'GO' moment — you don't need a payline, the values themselves do the work.
Coin Meter Progression
The side meter in Book of Dead Go Collect that tracks GO Collect progress. Each coin landed in the base game advances the meter regardless of whether a payout follows. Progress persists across spins until the Treasure Vault triggers, so a long session keeps building toward the next bonus.
Rich Wilde Adventure
The framing narrative across Play'n GO's Book of Dead series. Book of Dead Go Collect is the Egyptian-tomb sequel where Rich Wilde returns as the highest-paying premium symbol, paying up to 500x for five of a kind on a single payline before Free Spin expansions kick in.
